In a major crackdown against those possessing illegal and irregular weapons, the Dehradun district administration has canceled 827 arms licenses.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal stated that this action was taken under the Arms (Amendment) Rules, 2019, and the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

773 licenses canceled for not generating UIN on the NDAL-ALIS portal

This action has been taken against arms license holders for possessing more weapons than the prescribed limit and for failing to generate a Unique Identification Number (UIN) on the NDAL-ALIS portal.

The District Magistrate explained that the Ministry of Home Affairs, under the Arms (Amendment) Rules, 2019, amended Section 3 of the Arms Act, 1959, reducing the maximum number of weapons an individual can possess from three to two.

Under this provision, 54 arms licenses have been canceled in the district. Additionally, 773 arms licenses have been canceled for not generating a UIN on the National Database of Arms Licenses and Arms License Assurance System (NDAL-ALIS) portal.
