Women, led by Uttarakhand Congress State President Jyoti Rautela, staged a protest at the Dalanwala police station to demand the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Girdhari Lal Sahu, the husband of Sports Minister Rekha Arya. Harish Rawat also arrived at night to support the protest. The protest ended after the SP City arrived, received their memorandum of demands, and assured them of appropriate action.
Earlier in the day, the police detained Congress leaders and took them to the police lines before releasing them, but they returned to the police station. The women remained at the police station late into the night, demanding the registration of the FIR. Jyoti Rautela stated that the Congress party strongly condemns the shameful statement made on a public platform. A complaint had been filed at the Dalanwala police station on January 2nd, but no FIR has been registered to date. Rautela said that the Mahila Congress (Women’s Congress) would not rest until legal action is taken.
At night, SP City Pramod Kumar arrived at the Dalanwala police station and received the memorandum of demands from the protesting women. He assured them of appropriate action, after which the protest ended. Dalanwala Police Station In-charge Inspector Santosh Kunwar said that a complaint had previously been filed by a Congress leader. Since the matter pertained to Almora, the complaint had been sent to Almora. He added that they had taken the women to the police lines three times, but each time they returned to the police station.
