Ajit Pawar’s dream remained unfulfilled… similarly, an accident had also ended his grandmother’s career

A plane crash claimed the life of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Pawar had been in politics for a long time, although his career as a party president was only a few years old. However, this journey came to an abrupt end due to the accident. Along with his life, a dream he harbored also remained unfulfilled.
Ajit Pawar’s grandmother was also in politics
Whether it’s a mere coincidence or something more, Ajit Pawar’s grandmother’s political career also ended due to an accident. The only difference is that the accident wasn’t fatal. Pawar’s grandmother, Shardabai Govindrao Pawar, was also active in politics for many years. When Sharad Pawar was born, she was a member of the Pune Local Board.
She even attended a meeting with Sharad in her arms
She was so active and dedicated that she attended a board meeting with Sharad in her arms. This was on December 15, 1940, when Sharad was just three days old. In June 1938, the Congress party asked Shardabai to contest the Pune Local Board election. This seat was reserved for a woman.
An accident also halted Ajit’s grandmother’s journey
She was elected unopposed. She served from July 9, 1938, for 14 years. But in 1952, an attack by an injured bull changed everything. Her political career came to a standstill. The attack didn’t kill her, but it left her incapacitated, forcing her to rely on crutches for the rest of her life.
Ajit became an MP for the first time in 1991
Ajit Pawar was also very active in politics. He entered politics in 1982. In 1991, he became a Member of Parliament for the first time. However, his journey as a party president was quite short. In 2019, he rebelled against the NCP. After a legal battle, he secured the NCP name and election symbol for his faction.
A short stint as NCP President
In 2024, he contested elections for the first time as the NCP president. He also performed better than the NCP faction led by Sharad Pawar. But he passed away before his real test. Only time will tell which direction the party will take now.
Ajit Pawar’s dream remained unfulfilled…
Ajit Pawar held the post of Deputy Chief Minister several times. But there was one wish that remained unfulfilled after his death. He always wanted to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. In 2024, he even publicly expressed this desire to journalists.
Wanted to become Chief Minister
During an event, he said, “I want to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, but I always get stuck at the Deputy Chief Minister’s post. I don’t get a chance to go beyond that. In 2004, the NCP had the opportunity to appoint its own Chief Minister, but the party leadership gave it to the Congress.”
For your information, in 2004, Sharad Pawar’s NCP became the largest party in the assembly with 71 seats. The Congress had only 69 seats. But then Vilasrao Deshmukh was chosen as the Chief Minister of the coalition government.
