Heavy rainfall is expected in these districts of Uttarakhand, and snowfall in the mountains will bring a chilling cold

Rain and snowfall have begun in Uttarakhand. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of the mountains for January 28th.

What will the weather be like in Uttarakhand on January 28th?

According to the forecast issued by Dr. C.S. Tomar, Director of the Meteorological Department, heavy rain and snowfall are expected in Nainital, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat districts on January 28th. Winds are also expected to reach speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour. The weather scientists have issued an orange alert for these districts.

Possibility of Snowfall and Avalanches

Considering the possibility of snowfall and avalanches in the higher reaches of Uttarakhand, the Disaster Management Authority has alerted all districts. According to the forecast issued by the Defence Geo-Informatics Research Establishment (DGRE), Chandigarh, snowfall and avalanches are likely in various high-altitude areas of the state until 5 PM on January 28th.

According to the warning issued by DGRE, an orange alert has been issued for Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag. In this category, deep and unstable snow accumulates on most avalanche paths, increasing the risk of natural avalanches.

A yellow alert has been issued for Pithoragarh. In this category, unstable snow is found on some avalanche paths, and there is a possibility of small-scale natural avalanches in limited areas. A green alert has been issued for Bageshwar.

Schools to remain closed in Udham Singh Nagar on January 28th

Following the weather forecast, the District Magistrates of Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Almora, Uttarkashi, Tehri, and Rudraprayag have declared a holiday for all schools in their respective districts on January 28th. Orders to this effect were issued on the evening of January 27th. The order clearly states that action will be taken against schools that do not comply.
