Political activity has intensified in Uttarakhand ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Amidst this, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made significant inroads into the Congress party through its membership drive, inducting several prominent leaders into its fold.

At an event held at the BJP headquarters in Dehradun, several leaders—including former District Panchayat Chairperson Lakshmi Rana, Senior Vice President of the Mahila Congress Meena Sharma, the former Chairperson of the Rudrapur Municipality (and 2022 Assembly candidate), and former Assembly candidate from Ghansali, Darshan Lal Arya—formally joined the BJP.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt welcomed all the new members, stating that the party’s membership drive is gaining continuous momentum, and a large number of people are joining the party, inspired by the BJP’s policies.

He remarked that public representatives and common citizens alike are embracing the BJP, impressed by the developmental work being undertaken under the leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami in the state and Narendra Modi at the Centre.

Taking aim at the Congress party, Mahendra Bhatt alleged that the party is engaged in misleading the public—a strategy whose repercussions are now clearly visible. He further asserted that in the coming days, several more Congress leaders are likely to switch allegiance and join the BJP.

He also affirmed that the BJP is fully prepared for the 2027 assembly elections and is moving forward with the objective of forming the government once again with a clear majority.
