Interpol withdraws red corner notice against Mehul Choksi, who is the officer who gave relief to the fugitive?

There is a bad news for India and CBI in the case of fugitive Mehul Choksi. Interpol has withdrawn the Red Corner Notice (RCN) issued against Choksi, the main accused in the Rs 13,500 crore PNB loan scam case. This notice is no longer available on the INTERPOL website. Choksi’s lawyer in India Vijay Aggarwal said, “Due to the efforts of the legal team, my client’s RCN has been cancelled.” He said, ‘Truth has finally prevailed.’ At present, the CBI has not commented on the matter. Let us know who is the President of Interpol who has decided to withdraw the Red Corner Notice against Mehul Choksi.
Currently, the Chief of Interpol is Major General Ahmed Nasser Al-Raisi of the United Arab Emirates. Al-Raeesi was elected in November 2021 at the 89th General Assembly (UNGA) in Istanbul. He will serve as Interpol Chief till 2025. Al-Raisi had joined the Abu Dhabi Police in 1980. From 1986 to 1992, he was the head of the Forensic Science Institute. He has been working as Inspector General in the UAE Ministry of Interior since 2015 after holding different positions in the Abu Dhabi Police.
Interpol chief is elected for four years
The President of INTERPOL is elected by the United Nations General Assembly for a term of four years. The position of Interpol Chief is part-time and unpaid. Al-Raisi of UAE has given a big relief to Choksi. According to media reports, a petition was filed on behalf of Choksi before the Interpol after which this notice (RCN) was withdrawn. In 2021, Choksi accused some people of kidnapping him.
Choksi absconded from India in 2018
Choksi claimed that the men were Indian agents who took him to Dominica from the Caribbean country of Antigua and Barbuda. Choksi fled India in January 2018, days before the CBI booked Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi in the PNB case. By then he had acquired the citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda.
