HC’s decision came in the matter of seeking PM Modi’s degree, Arvind Kejriwal fined, CM also reacted

Gujarat HC says PM Modi need not furnish his degrees, imposes ₹25,000 fine on Kejriwal | India News

The Gujarat High Court gave its verdict on Friday in the matter of seeking the Prime Minister’s degree. The High Court has set aside the Central Information Commission (CIC) order directing Gujarat University to provide information about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s degree to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Justice Biren Vaishnav said that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is not required to give his graduation degree certificate. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The CM had asked for the details of the PM’s degree certificate.

CM Arvind Kejriwal has given a sharp reaction after the decision of the High Court. He tweeted, “Does the country not even have the right to know how much their PM has read?” He vehemently opposed showing the degree in the court. Why? And those who demand to see their degree will be fined? What is this happening? Illiterate or less educated PM is very dangerous for the country.

What is the matter?

Let us tell you that Gujarat University had filed a petition in the High Court and requested to cancel the order to provide information about PM Modi’s degree to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under the RTI Act.

In April 2016, the then CIC M Sridhar Acharyulu had directed Delhi University and Gujarat University to inform CM Kejriwal about the degrees given to PM Modi. Three months later, the Gujarat High Court stayed the CIC order when the university filed a petition against the order.

The CIC order came after CM Kejriwal wrote a letter to Acharyulu, stating that he had no objection to public records being made public and wondered whether the commission would share information about PM Modi’s educational qualifications. Why does he want to hide?
