Growth in the entire South East Asia region, not just in India

The recent report of the World Health Organization states that not only India, but the entire South East Asia region has suddenly seen the highest proportional increase in new COVID cases. While there has been a decrease of about 27 percent in cases globally. According to WHO, an increase of 437 percent has been recorded in new cases of corona in India. And the new Omicron variant XBB.1.16 is responsible for this growth. According to WHO, this variant is a recombined of BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75. Apart from India, there has been an increase in new cases of corona in other countries of Southeast Asia, Indonesia and Thailand. The World Health Organization has said that in the entire South Asia region, there has been an increase of about 152 percent in the last 28 days. In view of the increase in the corona case, WHO is closely monitoring the new Omicron variants XBB.1.16 and XBB.1.5 along with six variants. From 27 February to 26 March 2023, 36 lakh new cases of corona have been reported globally. While 25 thousand people have died due to Kovid. WHO has said that despite the decline in Kovid cases globally, corona cases are continuously increasing in some countries. It is important to pay attention to this.

New Omicron variant responsible: WHO

The World Health Organization has said that the new Omicron variant XBB.1.16 is responsible for the increase in Covid cases in India. According to WHO, this variant is a recombined of BA.2.10.1 and BA.2.75. Its parent lineage is XBB. XBB.1.16 can spread faster than SARS-CoV-2. Its symptoms are similar to the Omicron variant. These include high fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, stomach discomfort, headache and chills.
