The CJI has agreed to hear the matter on 14 April. According to the roster of Supreme Court, CJI himself is going to hear all the cases

The matter of stopping the teachers of Delhi from going abroad for training has reached the court of CJI DY Chandrachud. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court urging Chandrachud to arbitrarily stop Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena. The CJI has agreed to hear the matter on 14 April. According to the roster of the Supreme Court, the CJI himself is going to hear all the cases.

Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Governor VK Saxena have been at loggerheads for a long time due to non- availability of foreign training to teachers. Kejriwal was so upset when the government did not accept the proposal that he along with his ministers and MLAs went to the house of the Lieutenant Governor. This incident happened on 16th January. Their demand was that the LG should immediately approve the proposal to send 30 teachers to Finland.

Finland’s proposal was passed but LG raised its hand for further

After a tussle with the government, on March 4, the Lieutenant Governor approved the Delhi government’s proposal involving 30 teachers, but also said that the government should not send any such proposal to him in future. They will no longer approve such proposals.

The tussle against the Lieutenant Governor and the Delhi government has been going on for a long time. Kejriwal had also filed a case in the Supreme Court terming the interference of the Lieutenant Governor as unnecessary. In the decision that came after that, the powers were divided between the Delhi government and the Lieutenant Governor.

The Supreme Court had fixed the rights of Delhi government and LG

The Supreme Court had accepted that Delhi is a Union Territory, so the Chief Minister cannot be given the same powers as the CMs of other states have got. Ever since becoming the CM of Delhi, Kejriwal has been complaining that the Lieutenant Governor is stopping him from working at the behest of the Centre.

The special thing is that it was the LG who ordered the CBI inquiry into the Delhi liquor scam. After that Manish Sisodia was arrested.
