Russia claims- America hacked thousands of iPhones for espionage; Apple Inc denied

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Thursday it had uncovered a US espionage operation that hacked thousands of iPhones using sophisticated surveillance software.

Russian people claim to have hacked iPhone

Moscow-based Kaspersky Lab said the phones of dozens of its employees were also hacked during the campaign. The FSB, the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, said in a statement that those whose Apple phones were hacked included domestic Russian consumers as well as foreign diplomats posted in Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union.

FSB claimed

The FSB also says that the plot reflects close cooperation between Apple and the US National Security Agency (NSA). However, the FSB presented no evidence that Apple cooperated with or had any knowledge of the espionage operation.

Apple Inc denied the claim

The NSA declined to comment in this regard. At the same time, Apple Inc. has denied Russia’s claim of any cooperation in US espionage. The company issued a statement saying that it has never worked with any government and will never do so.

Apple Inc. said it is “refuting claims made by Russia’s Federal Security Service that it cooperated with US spies to surveil Russian iPhone users.”
