Uttar Pradesh: Gold worth more than one crore found in airport toilet

During the investigation, the custom team has recovered gold worth more than one crore rupees from the toilet of Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. After recovering the gold, the investigation is being done by the officials. The gold has been seized by the custom team and the passenger who hid the gold in the toilet is being identified on the basis of footage from CCTV cameras installed in the main terminal building of the airport. It was told by the officials of the Customs Department that gold was hidden in the toilet by a passenger coming from Sharjah. In fact, passengers coming from Air India Express flight IX 184, which reached Varanasi Airport from Sharjah on Wednesday, were being investigated by the officials of the Customs Department. After the checking of the passengers was completed, the team also reached the toilet for routine checking.
During the investigation in the toilet, a urinal was lying unclaimed in black plastic. In such a situation, the toilet was investigated by the officials and then it was taken into custody. When it was opened by the team, 16 gold biscuits were recovered from it.
The weight of the recovered biscuits was said to be 1866.100 grams and the price was said to be one crore twelve lakh fifty two thousand five hundred and eighty-three rupees. After recovering the gold, the passengers going to the toilet are being identified by the custom team on the basis of CCTV footage.
Passengers are being intensively checked: It was informed by the Customs officials that the passengers arriving by international flight at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport are being thoroughly checked.
The possibility was expressed by the officials that after reaching Varanasi with the gold from Sharjah, seeing the intensive checking being done by the customs, the passenger might have hidden the gold in the toilet itself to avoid being caught. After hiding the gold, he must have sneaked out.
It was also told by the airport officials that it takes a lot of time during customs checks, so toilets have been made near customs and immigration where passengers can go to defecate. In such a situation, the gold was hidden by the passenger in the same toilet.
