The local people and the police have their own claims about this. Local people and shopkeepers are in anger since the incident. These people took out a procession against the ‘outside’ shopkeepers by beating drums on the streets. Now news is coming that 42 ‘outside’ shopkeepers have left their shops overnight. According to media reports, most of these shopkeepers belonged to the Muslim community. These were small businessmen, such as ice cream, cycle repairing, quilt-cotton filling and vegetable vendors.

Purola Nagar Panchayat is in Uttarkashi district. According to media reports, on Friday, May 26, a youth named Uved Khan and his accomplice Jitendra Saini were trying to take away the minor daughter of a local shopkeeper. It is claimed that she was tricked into marriage.
After this incident anger erupted among the local people of Purola. And in no time, local people, shopkeepers and organizations of the area started protesting against outside shopkeepers in Purola. According to media reports, during this time, the Muslim community was warned to remove the boards of shops and leave the city. People of BJP and Sangh were also involved in these demonstrations. After these demonstrations, about 42 shopkeepers left their shops.
Local shopkeepers in Purola market closed their shops in protest against outside shopkeepers. These people said that outsiders and shopkeepers come here and commit many crimes under the guise of business. Incidents of theft keep happening. The local people took out a procession in the entire area while beating drums and demanded to drive out the outside shopkeepers from Purola. In view of the anger of the people, commercial institutions, shops and hotels etc. in the area were closed. And heavy police force was deployed. The protesting people reached the office of SDM Devanand Sharma under the leadership of Purola Udyog Vyapar Mandal and submitted a memorandum addressed to the governor. In this memorandum also, a demand was made to remove the shops and markets of “criminal type” of the particular community.
What did the police say?
On the other hand, SP Arpan Yaduvanshi of Uttarkashi district says that a case has been registered in the whole matter. The investigation is on. It was also said that there is peace in Purola. The conditions are under control. The police have also claimed that no businessmen from the Muslim community have been abused, nor have they been chased away. The shops which were closed, have also started opening slowly.
