US Open: Lakshya Sen reaches semi-finals, defeats India’s Shankar; Sindhu out after losing in the quarterfinals

Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen has made it to the semi-finals of the US Open badminton. Sen, who recently won the Canada Open, defeated compatriot Shankar Muthusamy in two straight games 21-10, 21-17 in the quarterfinals on Friday. With this one-sided victory, he reached the semi-finals. Sen delivered one of his most impressive performances. He was in great touch from the start and won the first set easily.

Shankar showed some fight in the second set but still could not prevent the reigning Commonwealth Games champion from making it to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Sen will face world number seven Li Shi Feng.

Lakshya also won the last match in a straight game
Lakshya Sen dominated the first game in the pre-quarterfinal match against the Czech Republic player. He extended it to 17-5 after taking a 6-1 lead. After this, he did not have much trouble in winning this game. Sen, however, gave a tough fight from the 39-year-old in the second game. Zain surprised Sen by taking an 8-5 lead. He extended his lead to 19-14 but Sen made a stunning comeback after that. The Indian made some brilliant saves after leveling the scores at 19-19 to seal the match.

Sindhu’s journey ends
In the women’s section, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu continued her poor run of form this season as she lost to Gao Fang Jie in the quarters. Sindhu, who recently slipped to No.15 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, lost the match 22-20, 21-13. The world No. 36 fought hard to win the first game but easily won the second game.
