Describing Mahara’s apology as insufficient, the BJP has demanded immediate resignation of Mahara or else his removal from the Congress National President. Also, having a state president with such a mindset is not in the interest of the public.

Answering the questions of the media at the party headquarters, State General Secretary Aditya Kothari said, “In the tragic Ankita episode, the investigating agencies acted promptly and now the matter is pending in the court.” On the instructions of Chief Minister Dhami, all the necessary actions are being taken with the consent of the victim’s family, from the advocate to the judicial side. So the Congress should have trusted the court, but they were taking out the yatra to take political advantage of this sensitive matter. People do not have faith in his policies and intentions, that is why they did not participate in his yatra. These statements of Congress State President Mahara and Manish Khanduri are the result of their anger and frustration.

Kothari termed Mahara’s apology as insufficient after insulting an entire society and Uttarakhand. He said, despite being on a responsible post, he made this indecent remark knowingly, therefore he has no moral right to hold the post of president of a political party. Therefore, he should resign from his post without delay, otherwise the National President of Congress should immediately remove such irresponsible office bearer from his post. Expressing concern, he said that it is not in the interest of the people of the state to have such a person on the main post of the opposition, who has such disgusting thoughts towards them.

Countering Mahara’s statement about the leaders supporting the BJP in his party, he said that the video which has gone viral was available on the social media sites of his party and party leaders. He sarcastically said, why do you give such statements which come in the category of viral. He also told that it is necessary for the leaders of the Congress party to come out with their real thinking towards the people of Uttarakhand.
