Indonesia’s land shook again due to strong earthquake, intensity was 6.1 on Richter scale.

The land of Indonesia was shaken by strong earthquakes on Thursday. According to reports, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in Indonesia’s Timor island on Thursday, causing minor damage to buildings and houses. It is a matter of relief that no death has been reported during this period, although some people have definitely been injured. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake’s epicenter was 21 kilometers (13 mi) north-northeast of Kupang, the capital of East Nusa Tenggara province, at a depth of 36.1 kilometers (22.4 mi).

‘There is no danger of tsunami’

Dariono, head of the earthquake and tsunami center at Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency, said strong tremors were felt in many cities and villages, causing panic among people. The agency initially measured the earthquake’s magnitude at 6.6 and then changed it to 6.3. Let us tell you that changes in the initial measurements of earthquakes are common. According to USGS, the intensity of the earthquake was measured at 6.1 on the Richter scale. Dariano wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, ‘Many buildings and houses have suffered minor damage due to the earthquake.’ Dariano said that there is no danger of a tsunami due to the earthquake.

Earthquakes keep coming in Indonesia
Indonesia is a seismically active archipelago that is frequently affected by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis. In Indonesia last year, a magnitude 5.6 earthquake killed at least 602 people in the city of Cianjur in West Java. It was the deadliest earthquake in Indonesia since the 2018 Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami that killed more than 4,300 people. Earlier in 2004, an extremely powerful earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a tsunami, killing more than 2,30,000 people in a dozen countries. Most of these people died in Aceh province of Indonesia.
