Maharashtra: Manoj Jarange Patil’s fast ends, says- resolve Maratha reservation issue in 2 months

Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil on Thursday ended his indefinite fast after reportedly meeting a Maharashtra government delegation. He has asked the government to resolve the issue within two months. Jarange ended his fast by drinking juice, adding that if no decision was taken within two months, he would lead a massive march to Mumbai.

The announcement came at the fast site in his village Antarwali Sarti in Jalna district when four state ministers met him and requested him to end his indefinite hunger strike. According to reports, during talks with the government delegation, Jarange had demanded that reservation should be given to Marathas in the entire Maharashtra. Earlier, a delegation of retired High Court judges Sandeep Shinde, MG Gaikwad and officials, including others, had met Jarange, who is on an indefinite hunger strike in his village Antarwali Sarti in Jalna district since October 25 demanding Maratha reservation. Manoj Jarange demanded that the government should provide adequate funds and deploy several teams for the survey of economic and social backwardness of the Maratha community. He demanded that a government order granting Kunbi caste certificate to Marathas should be passed and the word ‘Sampoorna’ (Maharashtra) should be included.

The process of giving certificates has already started

Here, the Maharashtra government has already started the process of giving Kunbi certificates to the Marathas of Marathwada region, who can present the old records declaring them or their ancestors as Kunbi. Actually, Kunbi is a farming community, which gets reservation in the Other Backward Class (OBC) category.
