Hamas vs Israel:Hamas-Israel agree to a ceasefire after one and a half months

After more than one and a half months in the war between Hamas and Israel, both sides have agreed to a ceasefire. In this series, on Wednesday, the Union Cabinet under the leadership of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved the proposal for ceasefire with Hamas.

What is the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel?
Hamas and Israel, the warring parties since October 7, have finally agreed to a ceasefire. According to reports, the US has brokered a deal between Israel and Hamas to release dozens of hostages in exchange for a five-day ceasefire in Gaza.

Under the agreement, 50 women and children held hostage by Hamas and other groups in Gaza since October 7 are to be released. An American official informed that among those released will be three American citizens, including a four-year-old girl. Officials expect the first releases under the agreement to take place by Thursday (November 23).

On the other hand, Hamas has claimed that Israel will release 150 Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, which will include all women and children. Along with this, it will allow hundreds of trucks daily to cross the Rafah border with Egypt. This will provide humanitarian supplies to Palestinians in Gaza

What else is included in consent?
Regarding the agreement, Hamas claims that Israel will stop air flights in southern Gaza and operate them in the northern area only for six hours a day. It has also been decided in the agreement that the Israeli army will not bring military vehicles into Gaza during the ceasefire, nor will it try to detain anyone.

Meanwhile, the Netanyahu government said the ceasefire would be extended by one day for every 10 additional hostages released.

After all, why was the agreement reached after one and a half months?
On October 7, Hamas suddenly attacked and took more than 200 citizens of many countries, including Israelis, hostage. However, even after one and a half months, when these hostages have not been released, their families have come out on the streets to protest. Meanwhile, the affected families met with members of the Israeli war cabinet on Monday night following a campaign called ‘Bring them home’.

Apart from this, due to the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsening every day, international pressure on Israel is also increasing. It was said that the bombing by the Israeli army and the subsequent ground offensive has created a humanitarian crisis here. There is an acute shortage of food, water, fuel and medicines in Gaza. 17 lakh people have been displaced in Gaza Strip, which has a population of 23 lakh. Apart from this, only 10 out of 36 hospitals present in the area are currently functioning.

Does this signal the end of the war, what will happen next?
Experts believe that Hamas wants to use any ceasefire to regroup. It has been said that Hamas may try to extend the ceasefire by gradually demanding the release of more prisoners held in Israeli prisons.

On the other hand, if we look at Israel, it would not like to stop the retaliatory action by coming to this point. Israel’s three objectives for which it had vowed to eradicate Hamas have not yet been fulfilled. Israeli forces have not yet captured all of northern Gaza. On Tuesday, it surrounded Jabaliya area, considered a stronghold of Hamas. In addition, Israeli forces also took control of the Indonesian hospital near Jabaliya, the only functioning major medical center in the north.

Along with this, the attention of the Israeli army is also on the south of Gaza and especially the city of Khan Younis. The IDF believes that Hamas leadership is in the city of Khan Younis and that the remaining hostages may be being held there. Some Israeli military leaders argue that an attack on the city would be necessary to deal a major blow to Hamas.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the Cabinet that he expects fighting to resume. He also said that Israel will not stop after the ceasefire.
