Uttarakhand: Four-day world conference on disaster management started from today in Dehradun

The 6th World Disaster Management, one of the largest global conferences on disaster management, has started from today at Graphic Era (Deemed University), Dehradun. This four-day conference was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Addressing the program, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ji welcomed all the guests, research scholars, practitioners and scientists participating in the “World Conference on Disaster Management”. He said that guests from more than 50 countries around the world are welcome in Uttarakhand. He said that in this conference there will be detailed brainstorming on the subject of disaster management and Dehradun Declaration will also be issued from which it is expected that many things will come out on disaster management and we will also implement it in future and this is also an important document. will be.

The Honorable Chief Minister also informed the people about the efforts being made to save the people trapped in the tunnel of Uttarkashi and he said that with the cooperation of the State Government and the Central Government, every possible effort is being made to get the people out as soon as possible. Is. From time to time, oxygen, medicine, food and all the items needed are being provided to the people trapped inside the tunnel so that they remain healthy and safe inside.

Talking about the conference, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ji said that there has always been a relationship between mankind and nature and this Devbhoomi is witness to the fact that we have been facing terrible disasters in the mountains. Given this background, Uttarakhand is a very important place for this conference. Such disasters like landslides, excessive rainfall, excessive snowfall have been happening here from time to time. We have been successful in reducing the effects of disaster by identifying it in advance with a proactive approach and under the guidance of Modi ji, we have created health, heli service and other necessary facilities in the mountains so that minimum people are affected in disasters. . He said that we cannot stop disaster but we can definitely reduce its impact by identifying it early through technology and systems. Honorable Chief Minister said that we are trying to include disaster management in the curriculum of Uttarakhand so that the students of Uttarakhand can get more and more information about the disaster and remain alert and careful by thinking for the future. .

Referring to the G20 conference, the Honorable Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand had the opportunity to organize three conferences of the G20 conference and through this we have given Uttarakhand international recognition in front of national and international level guests. He also talked about the Global Investor Summit to be held in Dehradun from 8 to 9 December 2023 and he said that before the conference we have already signed an agreement of Rs 2 lakh crore and by the time this conference concludes, we will move further. Will have finished.

In this program, the Chief Minister also released the book “Resilient India: How Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi changed India’s disaster management model” based on the experiences of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the program, Ranjit Kumar Sinha, Secretary, Uttarakhand Disaster Management welcomed all the guests and said that we all have to come forward together to save the earth. He said that today under the leadership of our young Chief Minister, Honorable Pushkar Singh Dhami ji, we are brainstorming on disaster management, the outcome of which is going to be very good.

Anand Babu, President DMICS said in his address that till now many scientists have participated in this world event and expressed their views, but this time why is this event being organized in Dehradun, Uttarakhand? On the question of, he said that we are very close to the Himalayas and we have seen disasters very closely, due to which it is easy for scientists and research scholars to work here, hence this event is being organized in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

Pro. Durgesh Pant, DG U CAST in his address said that 51 countries are represented in this event and through this the seriousness of disaster management can be understood. He said that we have successfully organized G-20 and there is global level participation in it. But our India’s contribution can be understood. He said that our Chief Minister is very serious about disaster management and keeps thinking and taking action as per the time. Praising the working style of the Chief Minister, he said that the Chief Minister is taking the people trapped in the tunnel of Uttarkashi on priority and keeps inspecting them from time to time.

He said that we have to understand and implement the concept of “Earth is my mother and I am her child”. During his address, he showed the letter received from the Prime Minister (which WCDM has received as an appreciation letter) to the people and he also presented the presentation of this conference on the occasion of the 6th World Disaster Management Conference by the megastar of the century, Amitabh Bachchan through a visual medium. Environmentalist Padma Bhushan Anil Prakash Joshi, in his address, said that this is an important Congress which is being organized here, we are going to make the city smarter and smarter but our country is also moving forward in terms of disaster, We want to talk about disaster free development where there is development but the possibility of disaster is absolutely minimal. Talking about the Uttarkashi Tunnel accident, he said that in today’s race we have so much technology and systems but we are feeling absolutely helpless. Our scientists and systems need to be reviewed to see how such accidents can be reduced!

Dr. D. Mahantesh, Founder Samarthanam International Bengaluru, in his address said that disaster causes disability to the maximum number of people and its impact is mostly on women and children. He said that our organization Samarthan International works for disabled people, we have also worked in Uttarakhand during the Corona epidemic and at times of disasters we always stand together for the people of Uttarakhand.

Rajendra Ratanu, IAS Executive Director National Institute of Disaster Management, in his address said that climate change is a serious issue and it remains a topic of discussion for the entire world. He said that we should work on disaster risk reduction.

Radha Raturi, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, in her address said that women and children are the most affected during disasters. We hope that we will discuss this through this conference and concrete conclusions will be drawn for this.

SS Sandhu, Chief Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand, welcomed the people coming from different countries through his address. He said that development projects do not always bring disaster but we should arrange for some treatment which can control the disaster. He said that we should move forward by combining development with natural balance.

Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator, in her address said that very serious steps are being taken by the Uttarakhand government regarding disaster management. Disasters occur in both “man made and natural” ways, such as natural disasters come in the form of floods, earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, while man made disasters come in the form of war between two countries. He said that the United Nations Organization remains ready to provide all possible help to India. He said that disaster affects people as well as agricultural land and other essential resources, we can see that 125 countries around the world have disaster policy system but it is not enough. He said that India has done a lot in the early warning system and now if any disaster is about to hit India, it gets information 24 hours in advance which gives time to reduce the loss of life and property and people to recover. .

Admiral DK Joshi, Lieutenant Governor, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, in his address said that both Uttarakhand and Andaman and Nicobar are very close in terms of disaster, if tsunami and storm come in our Andaman and Nicobar, then in Uttarakhand there are disasters like landslides, heavy rains. Keeps coming. He has said that today we have many such technologies and new systems which issue us alerts before disaster. Organizations like NDRF and SDRF have been formed here so that with their help the losses being caused to the community can be reduced and they are always ready to provide help to the people. He said that through technology and apps, we can implement evacuation quickly and also reduce the loss of life and property, we have important technologies like GIS systems, sensors and drones with which we can help people now. And can also reduce the chances of loss in disaster.
