Mahua Moitra’s Parliament membership cancelled, motion passed by Lok Sabha by voice vote
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra was expelled from the membership of the House on Friday in the case of ‘asking questions for money’. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi moved a proposal for Moitra’s expulsion, which was approved by the House by voice vote. Earlier, after discussing the report of the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha, it was approved in the House in which it was recommended to expel Moitra. The opposition, especially the Trinamool Congress, requested that Moitra be given a chance to present her case in the House, but Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla refused, citing earlier parliamentary practice.
The dignity and decorum of the House will have to be maintained – Om Birla
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that if some tough decisions need to be taken, they will have to be taken to maintain the dignity and decorum of the House.
3-4 days should be given to read the report: Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary
Meanwhile, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary said during the discussion that how to read the 406-page report so quickly, 3-4 days should be given to read it. Meanwhile, Congress leader Manish Tiwari said that the Ethics Committee report came at 12 o’clock and the debate started at 2 o’clock. This is a very sensitive matter. Mahua Moitra should get a chance to express her full views.
Congress had expelled 10 MPs in 1 day’s report in 2005 – BJP MP
While answering Manish Tiwari’s question, BJP MP Hina Gavit said that this is not happening for the first time. In 2005, during the Congress government, the report was presented on the same day and 10 MPs were expelled on the same day. I have read the entire report for 2 hours. Hina said that Mahua Moitra’s account was logged in from Dubai 47 times. Whereas it is clearly written in the rule that your parliamentary ID password cannot be shared with anyone. Mahua’s account was logged in from four different cities.
This is not a question of party or opposition, but of the dignity of Parliament – BJP MP
BJP MP Hina Gavit said- This is not a question of party or opposition but a question of dignity of Parliament. Due to one incident the image of MPs has been tarnished all over the world. On the Ethics Committee report, TMC MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay said that Mahua Moitra should be given a chance to speak. Not listening to the affected party is injustice. On this, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, citing the rules, said that everything is being done as per the rules and traditions of the Parliament.
The Ethics Committee, headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, in its meeting on November 9 had accepted the report recommending expulsion of Moitra from the Lok Sabha on charges of ‘taking money and asking questions in the House’. Six members of the committee voted in favor of the report. Suspended Congress MP Preneet Kaur was also included among them. Four opposition members of the committee had given dissent notes on the report.
