Women’s Premier League is going to be organized next year, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced
The second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) will start in the month of February 2024. This announcement has been made by BCCI Secretary and WPL Committee Convenor Jai Shah himself.
All the matches of the league will be played in the same city. The first season of the Women’s Premier League was also held in the same city. The players auction for the second season was held in Mumbai on 9th December.
Jai Shah announced
Jai Shah said that ‘It has been decided that the second season of WPL will be organized in February next year. This league can be played between 22 February and 17 March.
Like before, this time too it will be organized in the same city. There are venues like Bangalore, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat etc. for organizing WPL. A decision will be taken in this matter soon.
Sutherland and Kashvi were the most expensive players in the auction
The most expensive players in Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League were Annabel Sutherland and Kashvi Gautam. Where Delhi included Sutherland and Gujarat included Kashvi in their team for Rs 2 crore each.
Apart from this, UP Warriors included Vrinda Dinesh for Rs 1.3 crore, Mumbai included Shabnim Ismail for Rs 1.2 crore, Gujarat included Phoebe Litchfield in their team for Rs 1 crore. These five players proved to be the most expensive in the auction.
Auction held on 30 players
There were 30 slots vacant in the WPL auction. There were total 165 players out of which only 30 players got lucky. All teams have completed their 8-18 players. Only six foreign players can be taken in a team. While Gujarat Giants bought 10 players, Delhi Capitals included only three players in their team.
