No extradition treaty between India and Pakistan; Pakistan’s response to the demand to hand over Hafiz Saeed to India; India had said – terrorists are wanted for us

Pakistan has rejected the demand for extradition of 26/11 attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed. Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Friday that India has sought the extradition of Hafiz Saeed in the case of ‘so-called money laundering’.

At the same time, when journalists asked him whether Pakistan would hand over Hafiz Saeed to India or not. In response to this, Zahra only said that there is no extradition treaty between the two countries. However, Pakistan has not yet given any official reply to India regarding the extradition of Hafiz Saeed.

India’s arguments regarding Hafiz Saeed
Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi had said that India has formally demanded the Pakistan Foreign Ministry to hand over terrorist Hafiz Saeed to India. Necessary documents for this have been sent to the Government of Pakistan. Bagchi had said- He is a global terrorist and is wanted in India. We have mentioned in the documents all those cases for which Hafiz is wanted.

Hafiz Saeed is reportedly in jail at present. However, many media reports and even Pakistani journalists have revealed that Saeed is not in jail, but in his home. Hafiz Saeed, who was once prominent in Pakistani media, is now completely away from the limelight. Saeed has not been seen on any public platform for almost four years.

In 2017, due to international pressure, Pakistan had to launch a campaign against Hafiz Saeed’s organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. He was kept under house arrest. However, in November 2017, Lahore High Court refused to extend the time of keeping Hafiz Saeed under house arrest. In 2018, the UN declared Hafiz Saeed’s organization a terrorist organization.

After this, in 2019, Pakistan’s Counter Terrorism Department arrested him again. He was going from Lahore to Gujranwala. In April 2022, Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced him to 33 years in prison in two cases of terror funding.

7 terrorists have been killed in Pakistan in the last 3 months. These are those terrorists who were included in India’s most wanted list. However, till now Pakistan and the terrorist organizations there are maintaining silence on this matter. All the killed terrorists were associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba i.e. LeT, Hizbul Mujahideen, Jaish-e-Muhammad i.e. JeM and Khalistan Movement.
