Dr. Khurana tells that P. Baron was very interested in pilgrimages and travelling. He had traveled from Shahjahanpur to China border several times riding a horse.
Baron’s heart changed after seeing the beauty of the lakes
Historian Dr. Vikas Khurana tells that in 1842, when P. Baron was returning back to Shahjahanpur after visiting Badrinath. During that time he had camped near Sherdanda hill. The local guide there told about the nearby Naini Lake. Seeing the beauty of the lake and its surroundings, P Baron wanted to settle here. But information was received from the local guide itself that to settle here, permission will have to be taken from the local landlord. It was also learned from the local guide that a goddess fair is organized here only once a year. Historian Dr. Vikas Khurana, while referring to an article by P Baron, said that Naini Lake was surrounded by beautiful green mountains on all sides. The water of the lake was clear and countless herds of deer also lived in the forests on the mountain peaks near the lake. The number of pheasants here was so high that P Barron had to run away from the camp ground.
P Baron cheated the landlord and got the signature done
Historian Dr. Vikas Khurana told that after seeing the beauty of this place, P. Baron felt a feeling of deceit. After which one day he took the landlord there for a boat ride to visit the lake. When the boat went into the middle of the lake. During that time he asked the landlord for permission to settle here and asked him to sign some documents. When the landlord refused, P Baron threatened to sink the boat in the middle of the lake. After this, the scared landlord signed those documents of P Baron to save his life.
