Madhya Pradesh: ‘Made naked and hung upside down, stabbed with tongs’, 21 girls of Indore orphanage narrated their ordeal to CWC, listen to what the officers said

A case of torture of girls has come to light in an orphanage in Indore. Police have registered a case against four female caretakers and launched an investigation after at least 21 girls at an orphanage have accused the caretaker of abuse and torture, officials said.

According to police, the girls, aged between 4 and 16, claimed to have suffered horrific torture, including being stripped, branded with iron tongs, exposed to the smoke of burning red chillies and hung upside down from railings. According to the information, on January 13, a team of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) had reached the orphanage run by Vatsalyapuram Jain Trust in Indore for a surprise inspection, after which the case of torture of girls came to light.

Case registered under POCSO and other related sections

Based on the ordeal of the girls, the police have registered a case against four female caretakers of the Vatsalyapuram Jain Trust under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Amarendra Singh said that the girls have told about various forms of harassment in their statements. On the basis of this, the police have registered a case under relevant sections. He said that the four caretakers against whom the case has been registered include Sujata, Suman, Aarti and Babli.

What did the officer say?

Indore Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya said that a case has been registered against the caretaker of Vatsalyapuram Child Ashram on charges of ill-treatment and torture by staff members. All the children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, where they gave statements that they were tortured. Based on the report, a case was registered and investigation has been started.

At the same time, after getting information about the case, Indore DM Ashish Singh said that a case has been registered on the basis of investigation of Vatsalyapuram Children’s Ashram and the statement of the children. At present, investigation is going on. He told that all the girls are from different districts. His parents brought him to the ashram. We have launched a comprehensive investigation. Based on the investigation and following the CWC report, appropriate legal action has been taken.
