What are the causes of earthquakes? Study reveals shocking facts
There are continuous reports of earthquakes from many states of the country including Uttarakhand. Due to frequent earthquakes, the concern of scientists has increased and amidst this concern, a shocking revelation has come to light. Scientists have made a big revelation by analyzing the records of old earthquakes.
Indian tectonic plate is bursting
In a study by scientists, it has been said that the Indian tectonic plates are bursting. It is rapidly moving down from the Eurasian Plate. Due to which the height of the Himalayas is increasing and the number of earthquakes in the areas around the Himalayan belt is also increasing.
Let us tell you that this is the same Himalaya where 10 out of the 14 peaks of the world which are higher than 8 km are present. The world’s highest mountains, the Himalayas, were formed when the Indian Plate collided with the Eurasian Plate. The Himalayan mountains have been formed due to the shrinkage of the earth’s uppermost layer i.e. the crust.
Crack is forming 100 km below the ground surface
Now the study has found that the crack in the Indian tectonic plate which is bursting is forming 100 kilometers below the ground surface. Whose effect will reach the center of the earth and the center of the earth is the Himalayas. According to scientists, due to the movement happening below, the Indian tectonic plate is going through the process of delamination. That means it is dividing into two parts.
Due to the rupture of the Indian tectonic plate, a strange geographical situation is being seen under the ground. The upper part of the Indian tectonic plate helps hold the land of Tibet up but the lower part of the Indian plate is sinking into the Earth’s mantle.
Surprising revelations in the study
Let us tell you that to conduct this study, scientists sent seismic waves to the collision site of the Indian and Eurasian plates. Then this study has been done from the data received from them. Seismic waves clearly showed that the Indian plate is bursting. When scientists studied below the Himalayas through 3D S-Wave Receiver, surprising revelations were made.
- The lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary is 90 degrees below south of Tibet, where this movement is taking place.
- Cracks have started forming 100 km north of the Yarlung-Zangbo Rift, these are beneath Tibet.
- Towards the east, the upper part of the mantle below India is getting separated due to the effect of gravity.
- The intensity of helium isotopes has increased in the Yadong-Gulu and Kona-Sangri rifts. That means helium is coming from the center of the earth.
- Earthquakes are continuously occurring in this area due to which the Indian tectonic plate is breaking more rapidly.
