Uttarakhand Transport Corporation came into existence after being separated from UP in 2003, about three years after the establishment of the state. During this period, about 957 new and old buses arrived from Uttar Pradesh as part of the roadways. Due to bad buses, bad roads, mismanagement and liability of UP, the Transport Corporation continued to incur losses. There was difficulty in paying salaries to the employees.

In March 2020-21, the Corona period broke the back of the corporation. The loss jumped from Rs 250 crore before 2020 to Rs 520 crore by 2022. During this time, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami government took command. Chief Minister Dhami himself reviewed it and took the responsibility of improvement. As a result, in 2022, the corporation made a record profit of Rs 29 crore after covering the losses of Rs 520 crore and all the expenses.
