Uttarakhand: Chief Electoral Officer took stock of election preparations in Chamoli district, conducted on-site inspection of voting facilities at polling stations

Preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections-2024 are in full swing in the district. In order to conduct the elections in a free, fair and transparent manner, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam reviewed the election preparations by holding a meeting of all the Assistant Returning Officers and Nodal Officers appointed for the elections in Chamoli district on Thursday.

In the meeting held at Tehsil Auditorium, Karnaprayag, the Chief Electoral Officer directed that by making the sweep program more effective, the voting percentage in the district should be increased in the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections. Awareness campaigns should be run especially in booths with low turnout in the last elections. Such migrant voters who are living in the state or outside the state should be contacted and called to vote at their booth. Elderly, disabled and women voters should be made aware. Every voter should be contacted and motivated to vote through BLs at the booth level. The Chief Electoral Officer said that for the convenience of voting, postal ballot or election duty certificate should be issued to the police and administration personnel and vehicle drivers engaged in election duty, so that no personnel on duty is left out of voting.

The Chief Electoral Officer directed that the sector and police officers should together thoroughly analyze the current situation at all the vulnerable areas and critical booths identified in the district. In view of security, he instructed the police to install CCTV on the district borders. FST, SST, Excise, Police and related departments were instructed to timely upload the action taken against illegal liquor, drugs, weapons and cash on the prescribed portal. He said that all preparations for the elections should be completed by timely resolving local public issues. During this, he also administered the voter oath to all the officers and personnel.

After the meeting, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. BVRC Purushottam conducted on-site inspection of various polling stations located in Karnaprayag and also took stock of the voting arrangements. At polling place Raika Karnaprayag, he took information about registered voters and migrant voters from BLs. He said that migrant voters should be called to vote at their booths on the day of voting. During this, he also talked to the voters.

District Election Officer Himanshu Khurana informed the Chief Electoral Officer about the registered voters in the district, polling stations, various teams formed for peaceful elections, nodal officers, sweep activities as well as various preparations for the elections. Superintendent of Police Rekha Yadav gave information about the current status of the police force, additional demand for the police force, district boundaries and various security aspects.

During this, Additional District Election Officer Abhinav Shah, Deputy District Election Officer Vivek Prakash, Assistant Returning Officer Karnaprayag Santosh Pandey, Assistant Returning Officer Badrinath RK Pandey, Assistant Returning Officer Tharali Abrar Ahmed, SDM Kamlesh Mehta, Nodal Officer Expenditure Monitoring Cell Mamur Jahan, Sweep Nodal officer of the program Kuldeep Gairola, Nodal Officer Transport Jyoti Shankar Mishra, Nodal Officer ETPBS and EDC Vijay Prakash Maurya including nominated nodal officers for various arrangements were present.
