Weightlifting: Shameful act of this athlete who won gold in Commonwealth Games
There is not much time left for the Paris Olympics and all the athletes are making full preparations to give their best performance. For this, national camps have been organized at many places where the players are finalizing their preparations. The country’s expectations from the athletes have increased after stellar performances in the 2022 Commonwealth Games and 2023 Asian Games. Meanwhile, weightlifter Achint Shiuli, who won the gold medal in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, has been caught doing shameful acts.
According to media reports, Shiuli was caught while going to the women’s hostel at NIS Patiala at night. After this action, he has also been thrown out of the national camp organized for the preparation of Paris Olympics. It is being told that this incident happened on Thursday night. After the matter came to light, an official of the Indian Weightlifting Federation said that such indiscipline will not be tolerated at all. Shiuli has been asked to leave the camp immediately. 22-year-old Shiuli, who had entered the men’s 73 kg category, was caught by the security personnel and his video was also made.
No evidence found from video
After this action of Shiuli, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Executive Director of NIS Patiala, Vineet Kumar, were informed about this. However, no evidence was found against Shiuli in the video made by the security personnel, due to which SAI did not form an investigation committee. There are separate hostels for boys and girls in Patiala. Presently the female boxer, athlete and wrestler is in NIS Patiala.
Jeremy Lalrinnuga was also removed from the camp
Shiuli is not the first weightlifter to be dropped from the national camp due to indiscipline. Before him, the Weightlifting Federation had also removed Commonwealth and Youth Olympic champion Jeremy Lalrinnuga from the national camp for the same reason.
Shiuli Paris Olympics hopes dashed
Shiuli was expected to deliver better results at the Paris Olympics after her stellar performance at the Commonwealth Games, but Xiuli will miss the IWF World Cup in Phuket, Thailand this month, which was mandatory for Paris Olympics qualification. With this, Shiuli’s hopes of qualifying for the Olympics were also dashed. So far, Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai Chanu (49 kg) and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Bindiarani Devi are in the race for the Paris Olympics. Both will play the tournament in Phuket.
