Election Commission’s big action in view of Lok Sabha elections 2024, order to remove Home Secretary of six states, DGP of West Bengal removed

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued orders to remove the Home Secretary in six states Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, along with the Secretary of General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh. Is. The Election Commission has also taken necessary action to remove the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal.
Apart from this, according to information received from sources, Secretaries of General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, who were holding charge in their respective Chief Minister’s offices, have been removed from their posts. According to sources, the poll watchdog has also taken action to remove Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal along with several additional commissioners and deputy commissioners.
These expulsions have been made as part of the Election Commission’s efforts to ensure fair and transparent elections while maintaining the integrity of the electoral process in various states. These developments of the ECI reflect its commitment to promote a fair electoral landscape and maintain the integrity of the democratic process. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar has consistently emphasized this commitment, including in the recent press conference announcing the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
The report said that the CEC meeting was called on Monday afternoon, which was attended by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu. The purpose of removing officers holding dual charge in the Chief Minister’s office in these seven states is to minimize potential compromise in fairness and impartiality during the electoral process, especially relating to law and order and deployment of forces,
The Election Commission has directed all state governments to transfer those officers engaged in election-related work who have completed three years or are posted in their home districts.
