Kerala government reaches Supreme Court if bills are not approved by President
The Kerala government moved the Supreme Court to release four bills passed by the Kerala Assembly, which are pending in the President’s Office. The Kerala government has filed a petition in the matter. Alleged that the Governor of Kerala had sent these bills to the President for consideration without signing them.
The petition also said that the conduct of the Governor in keeping the Bills pending for a long and indefinite period and thereafter reserving the Bills for the consideration of the President without any reason relating to the Constitution is clearly arbitrary and violative of Article 14 of the Constitution. Violates (equality before law).
It said, the assistance and advice given by the Center to the President in withholding assent to four Bills which are entirely within the jurisdiction of the state. Additionally, the actions violate the rights of the people of the State of Kerala under Article 21 of the Constitution to deprive them of the benefits of the welfare legislation.
It is noteworthy that even before this, the state government had moved the Supreme Court accusing the Governor of not approving several bills passed by the Assembly and the court had issued a notice to the Governor’s office on the petition on November 20 last year.
