Know about Ghorakhal Sainik School
Ghorakhal Sainik School was established on 21 March 1966. An interesting incident is associated with its name. During the freedom struggle of 1857, a British general was wandering in this area to escape from the revolutionaries. This British general’s horse died while drinking water from the pond there. Since then the local people named this place Ghorakhal.
In the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, ‘Khal’ means ‘pond’. According to historical documents, the Ghorakhal property was gifted to General Wheeler by the British rulers in 1870. After this, another development happened in the next century i.e. 1921. The then Nawab of Rampur, Hamid Ali, bought this property. When our country became independent in 1947, the then Uttar Pradesh government purchased the property of Ghorakhal from Nawab Hamid Ali in 1964 after the Privy Purse (special amount given to Nawabs) ended. Ghorakhal Sainik School was established on 21 March 1966.
