Uttarakhand: This time MSP will be decided before the coarse grains are ready, the committee has started its homework

The minimum support price (MSP) of coarse grains produced in the Kharif season in Uttarakhand can be fixed before the crop is ready. For the first time, the state government is going to fix the MSP of coarse grains including jhangora (sawa), amaranth (ramdana), black bhatt, gahat, red rice, kidney beans and other coarse grains.

The technical committee constituted to fix the MSP will give the report to the government after assessing the production cost. After the launch of Shrianna Yojana by the Central Government last year, the demand for coarse grains of Uttarakhand has increased. The state government also started the State Millet Mission to increase the production of coarse grains produced in Uttarakhand and encourage farmers.

Homework started to determine MSP

Last year, the central government had fixed the minimum support price of mandua for the first time at Rs 38.56 per kg. Now the state government is going to fix the MSP of coarse grains including jhangora, amaranth, gahat dal, black bhatt, red rice, kidney beans and other coarse grains. For this, a technical committee of officials of the Agriculture Department has been formed. This committee has started homework to determine the MSP.

Several meetings of the committee have also been held. Based on the cost of production of crops and assessment of production, the committee will prepare a draft of MSP and submit it to the government. After this the government will take this decision. It is believed that MSP can be decided before the said crop is ready.

Farmers will benefit from MSP being decided

Coarse grains are cultivated in mountainous areas. Due to the MSP not being decided yet, farmers do not get a fair price. The state government has made arrangements to buy coarse grains from farmers at their doorsteps through Mandi Samiti and cooperative societies.
