Uttarakhand: Performance report card of 47 MLAs will be checked, votes decreased from last election

In the Lok Sabha elections, the report card of all 47 MLAs of the party will be checked for their performance in the assembly and their booths. BJP state president Mahendra Bhatt has already indicated this. He believes that the review of performance will help in making an effective strategy for the upcoming elections.

Despite winning all five Lok Sabha seats, BJP has suffered a setback in terms of votes and assembly seats compared to 2019. Out of 70 assembly seats, BJP could make a lead in only 13 seats compared to 2019. BJP made the highest lead in Nainital-US Nagar Lok Sabha. The party leadership is very serious about this and it is wondering why the party could not perform according to the target despite strong preparations in terms of resources, organizational network and strategy.

Therefore, the party’s state president Mahendra Bhatt has first decided to review the performance of responsible leaders and workers at the assembly, division and booth level. A committee at the party headquarters will be tasked with assessing the performance through a comparative analysis of the data of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, 2022 assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

47 MLAs of the party on test

In the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP won 47 out of 70 assembly seats. The party worked by targeting the 23 assembly seats it lost in the elections, so that it could perform better in the Lok Sabha elections than the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In comparison to 2022, the party managed to gain a lead in 60 seats compared to 47, but its performance was not as expected compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the district, the party took the lead in BHEL Ranipur, Roorkee, Haridwar Rural, Haridwar Assembly seat. In US Nagar, BJP lost five out of nine seats in the 2022 elections. In the 2024 elections, the party took the lead in Congress-dominated Khatima, Kichha, Bajpur, Haldwani. It lagged behind in only one seat, Jaspur, but compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, it was one seat behind.

Lost seats doubled

In 2019, BJP was behind in only five assembly seats. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, it suffered a setback in 10 assembly seats. The party lagged behind in Chakrata, Purola and Yamunotri in Tehri Lok Sabha seat. The party did not get any benefit even by including former MLA Malchand in Purola.
