“Justice will be delivered within three years of the case being filed”, Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement in the House

1 July Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Monday that after the implementation of the new criminal laws, justice in all cases up to the level of the Supreme Court will be available within three years of the registration of the FIR. Addressing a press conference after the implementation of the new criminal laws, Shah expressed hope that crimes will decrease in future and 90 percent of the cases will be convicted under the new laws. The Indian Justice Code (BNS) 2023, the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) 2023 and the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) 2023 came into effect across the country from Monday.

New laws will replace old laws

These three laws have replaced the British-era laws, the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the Indian Evidence Act respectively. He said, “Justice up to the level of the Supreme Court can be available within three years of the registration of the FIR.” The Home Minister said that the implementation of the three criminal laws will establish the most modern criminal justice system in the world in India. He said, “The new laws establish a modern justice system, which includes provisions like ‘Zero FIR’, online registration of police complaints, summons through electronic means like SMS and mandatory videography of crime scenes for all heinous crimes.” Amit Shah said this Shah said that the first case under the new law was registered in Gwalior at 12.10 am on Sunday night for motorcycle theft. He said that the new laws will give priority to providing justice, whereas in the colonial era laws, punitive action was given priority. Amit Shah said that the new laws have been made by the Parliament of India. The new law will reduce trials. Old sections have been removed and new sections have been added, now the emphasis is on justice instead of punishment. According to Indian law, till now every criminal was punished according to the Indian Penal Code. This Penal Code was made in 1860. At the same time, now punishment will be given under the Indian Judicial Code, which got the approval of Parliament only last year.
