Priyanka Gandhi’s first reaction on attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s first reaction has come to the fore regarding the attacks and atrocities on minorities including Hindus in Bangladesh. Priyanka Gandhi posted on social media platform X on Monday (August 12) and wrote that the reports of continuous attacks on minorities in neighboring country Bangladesh are disturbing.
He said that discrimination, violence and attacks on the basis of religion, caste, language or identity are unacceptable in any civilized society. The Congress General Secretary said that we hope that the situation in Bangladesh will soon return to normal and the newly elected government there will ensure security and respect for people following Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism.
Hindus protest against violence in Bangladesh
The Hindu community in Bangladesh is worried after Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister and violent protests over the issue of reservation in the South Asian country. On Sunday, people of the Hindu community took to the streets in large numbers in the port city of Chittagong and demanded protection of their lives, property and places of worship. He also said that ‘Bangladesh is our motherland and we will not go anywhere.’
The United Nations also paid attention
There have been reports of widespread and targeted violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, which the United Nations has also taken note of and has asked the interim Bangladeshi government led by Mohammad Yunus to protect minorities. Nobel Peace Prize-winning economist Yunus has also condemned the attacks on minority communities and termed them “heinous”.
The Nobel laureate recently told students at a Bangladeshi university, “Are they not the people of this country? You (students) are capable of saving this country; can’t you save a few families? They are my brothers. We have fought together, and we will stay together.”
