Pakistan has no place in BRICS partner countries; 13 countries got the status, out of which 7 are Muslim majority countries

BRICS Summit 2024 was organized in Kazan, Russia. During this, BRICS has given partner country status to 13 countries. It includes 7 Muslim majority countries including Algeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Turkey, Uzbekistan.

Pakistan has not got a place in this. Pakistan had applied to join the BRICS countries, but it could not even get a place among the partner countries. Partner countries will not be formal members of BRICS, but will be part of the planning of the organization.

This time more than 30 countries had applied for BRICS membership. At the BRICS Summit on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that now before including new countries, it will be kept in mind that it does not affect the working capacity of the organization.

Reason for Pakistan not being able to become a partner country

On October 18, the Deputy PM of Russia had told that a consensus has been reached among the member countries regarding Pakistan not being included in the partner countries. On the other hand, Pakistan does not fit in the criteria of emerging economy and market of BRICS countries.

1) Weak economy- Finance is the biggest reason. BRICS directly competes with the world’s most prosperous economic organization G7. In such a situation, the inclusion of Pakistan in it will weaken the organization economically.

2) Fear of increasing differences – Pakistan’s inclusion in BRICS may make the condition of the organization like SAARC. Actually, SAARC organization was created to coordinate among South Asian countries. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are its member countries.

However, due to strong differences between India and Pakistan, the organization is not able to function properly. Due to which its importance is questioned. There are high chances of Pakistan’s condition becoming like SAARC due to its inclusion in BRICS.

3) Foreign policy- The third and last reason is Pakistan’s foreign policy. Which is not concrete. Pakistan finds partners in the name of Islam. Then asks for help from them. Pakistan is a debt-ridden country, meaning it lives on the basis of loans.
