Iran wants India’s ‘Brahmastra’ from Russia to deal with Israel, Shia country scared of attack on Tehran
The Israeli airstrike on Saturday, October 26, has exposed the weaknesses of Iran’s air defense system. Israel attacked Iran with more than 100 fighter jets, targeting Iranian military bases and missile manufacturing facilities. Although Iran has the S-300 air defense system acquired from Russia, it also failed to stop the attack of Israeli F-35 and F-16. This is the reason why Iran wants to acquire a new superpower air defense system from Russia to compete with Israel.
Iran has ordered Su-35 fighter jets. Along with this, it wants to acquire the S-400 air defense system, so that it can face Israel’s missiles and air force. The S-400 is considered to be the best air defense system in the world. Russia has given this air defense system to its friend India.
Iran will have to wait now
Justin Bronk, Senior Fellow for Airpower and Technology in the Military Science Team at the Royal United Services Institute in Britain, told Business Insider that the delivery of Su-35s to Iran will take time. Along with this, it will take time to train pilots, prepare infrastructure and ground support equipment. That is, Iran will have to wait now to gain capability against Israel.
Iran has decades old jets
Iran’s Air Force has not received new fighter jets since the early 1990s. In such a situation, Sukhoi 35 will help to partially upgrade Iran’s old Air Force. This will increase Iran’s ability to defend its airspace. However, this will not change the balance of power in the region. Iran’s rivals like Saudi Arabia and UAE have far more advanced aircraft than Iran. This is why Iran will still have to rely on drones and ballistic missiles.
Iran has S-300 air defense system
Iran currently has the S-300 air defense system acquired from Russia, but Saturday’s Israeli air strike has proved that it is not enough. Israeli Ambassador to India Reuven Azar had said in an interview that Iran has the S-300, which cannot stop Israel’s A-35 and F-16. He said that Tehran’s military power has been exposed and Israel can attack anywhere in Iran.
