Central government is going to start census! Delimitation of Lok Sabha seats may happen by 2028
The government will start the census in 2025 after a delay of four years. On Monday, sources said that the process will start in 2025 and is expected to continue till 2026. According to sources, the delimitation of Lok Sabha seats will start after the census and the process is likely to be completed by 2028.
This development has happened amid the demand of many opposition parties for caste census. However, the government has not taken any decision yet and the details of the census process have not been made public yet.
The census, usually conducted every ten years to update the National Population Register (NPR), was scheduled for 2021, but had to be postponed due to the Kovid epidemic.
According to the information, the census to be held in ten years will now be held in 2035 for the next time. Till now the census conducted every ten years used to be conducted at the beginning of the decade like 1991, 2001, 2011 but now after 2025 the next census will be conducted in 2035, 2045, 2055 like this.
Survey of religion and social class
The upcoming census is expected to include a general survey of religion and social class as well as the enumeration of general, scheduled caste and scheduled tribe. However, sources suggest that next year’s census may also survey sub-sects within the general and SC-ST categories.
The central deputation of Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, serving as Census Commissioner, has recently been extended till August 2026, indicating the immediate start of the delayed census processes.
Amit Shah had given indications
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said in August this year on the possibility of conducting a decadal census that it will be done at the appropriate time. Once decided, I will announce how it will be done. Shah had also mentioned that the next national census will be done completely digitally through mobile phone applications.
Let us tell you that in the last census, India’s population was recorded at more than 121 crores, which shows a growth rate of 17.7 percent.
