Uttarakhand: An under-construction bridge suddenly collapsed in Roorkee, causing panic at the spot

The under-construction bridge being built over the Ganges canal in Roorkee suddenly collapsed, after which there was chaos on the spot. The Public Works Department officials who reached the spot say that the bridge collapsed due to a wire opening due to the strong flow of water released in the Ganges canal.

According to the information, there is Peer Baba Colony on the Kavad track in Roorkee, where an iron bridge was being constructed to connect the railway station on the proposal of MLA Pradeep Batra under the Chief Minister’s announcement, the foundation stone of this bridge was laid by the Chief Minister in the year 2023, while the responsibility of building this bridge was given to the Public Works Department.

There was no loss of life or property in the accident

Recently, when the water of the Ganges canal was stopped, the construction of the bridge was expedited, while the structure of the bridge was prepared by the concerned contractor and tied over the Ganges canal. It is being told that after the water came in the Ganga canal on the night of 30 October, the under construction bridge suddenly collapsed at around 11 am on 31 October. It is a matter of good fortune that no worker was working on the bridge during this accident. There is no loss of life or property in the accident.

In fact, in 2012, the structure of the bridge built in front of the Municipal Corporation was also washed away in a similar way, in which four workers were also washed away in the water along with the bridge. However, in this incident, Executive Engineer of Public Works Department Vipul Saini says that there is no damage to the bridge, the bridge fell down due to a wire opening due to the fast flow of water released in the Ganga canal. There is no other loss of life.
