Uttarakhand: Police woke up after 36 deaths in Almora accident, campaign will be run across the state against overloaded vehicles, DGP gave instructions to police officers in the meeting
After the death of 36 people in the Almora bus accident, the Uttarakhand Police has woken up from its slumber. That is why now a campaign will be run against overloaded vehicles across the state. Not only this, in the case of overloading, now a case will be registered against not only the driver but also the vehicle owner and conductor. DGP Abhinav Kumar has also issued instructions regarding this.
In fact, on Tuesday, November 5, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of DGP Abhinav Kumar regarding crime control and law and order along with traffic management. All the officers of the zone, district in-charges, Superintendent of Police, STF and Railways joined the meeting through video conferencing.
During the meeting, from November 10, a campaign will be run in all the districts against overloading and illegal vehicles as well as drunk drivers. Also, in road accidents caused due to overloading, a case should be registered against the vehicle owner, driver and conductor as per the guidelines in the SOP. Let us tell you that overloading is being said to be the major reason for the Almora bus accident. Because there were 63 people in a 42 seater bus.
During the meeting, instructions were given to all the district in-charges regarding crime control and law and order that registration of crimes should be done compulsorily and crime reduction should not be done under any circumstances. Also, the reasons for increase and decrease in crime rate should be reviewed at police station and circle level and they should be removed.
Apart from this, the districts which perform below 61 percent in property recovery were instructed to increase the percentage of property recovery. Crime related figures of plain and hill districts should be evaluated separately. At the same time, instructions were given to take action against the wanted criminals and to run a campaign to reunite the missing people with their families in Operation Smile.
Along with this, the hot spots of road accidents caused due to overloading in the last 10 years should be identified and verified and special signage boards, glowing boards, crash barriers etc. should be installed at such places. Also, the public has to face problems when the national highway is blocked and trains are stopped during dharna/procession. Cases should be registered against such anti-social elements.
DGP Abhinav Kumar said that homework should be done from now itself to ensure smooth conduct of Chardham Yatra in the coming year. In this regard, following the guidelines already issued from the headquarters, instructions were given to install electronic sign boards, mark holding area capacity and parking area. Also, all the districts were directed to provide the problems and suggestions faced during the Chardham Yatra on priority within 01 week.
