In this great festival of Sanatan Dharma, the setting and rising sun is worshipped with full rituals. The devotees had offered arghya to the setting sun yesterday and today worshipped the rising sun.
‘Ug hey Suraj Dev, Bhail Bhinsarwa… Argh ke re Gerwa, Poojan ke re Berwa ho’… This song was heard on everyone’s lips since Friday morning at the Chhath Ghats in Uttarakhand. Chhath devotees offered arghya to the rising sun. From the mountain to the plains, devotees offered arghya to the rising sun and prayed for happiness and prosperity.
The four-day Chhath Mahaparva ended with the offering of arghya to the rising sun. Women worshipped Chhathi Maiya and performed the aarti of the Sun God. There was an echo of the cheers of Chhathi Maiya and the Sun God all around.
In the morning, the ghats of Devbhoomi were lit up with the light of lamps for Chhath Puja. Chhath devotees started reaching various ghats including Haridwar, Dehradun, Rishikesh from 3 o’clock in the night.
The devotees waited for the sunrise. After this, as soon as the sun rose in the morning, they offered Arghya. During this, Aarti was performed by ringing conch and bell at the ghat and Thekua Prasad was distributed to each other.
Along with this, after offering Arghya to the rising sun, the devotees reached home and worshiped the Kuldevta. After this, they completed the 36-hour Nirjala fast by eating Prasad.
Special arrangements were made in Dehradun for Chhath Mahaparva from security to every aspect. Hundreds of workers were deployed at all the ghats for Chhath Puja.
