Uttarakhand: Students will study Hinduism from the next session in Dehradun, science will be taught along with Vedas and Vedanta

After BHU and DU, now students will also study Hinduism in Doon University. Doon University will be the first university in Uttarakhand, where a separate department will be created and MA course in Hindu Studies will be conducted from the year 2026. In the course, students will be made proficient in ancient knowledge-science, religion-science, Hindu scriptures, tradition along with Hinduism.

It is worth noting that Kashi Hindu University first started a two-year course, MA (Hindu Studies) in Hindu Studies in the year 2021. At the same time, from the year 2023, DU started postgraduate and PhD programs in Hindu Studies. After the provision made in the new education policy, Doon University is also going to start a course in Hindu Studies. After it was approved in the cabinet meeting held recently, the university administration has intensified the exercise to establish the Department of Hindu Studies.

Professors of Hindu Studies are not available

Since this course is new, many challenges are coming in front of the university. The university is not able to find trained professors of this subject. Since this course is being conducted in BHU and Delhi University, efforts are being made to call trained staff from Banaras and Delhi. The university says that work is still being done on the posts of professors in the department and the number of seats for admission.

Will be proficient in Ramayana, Mahabharata

There are many types of queries about what will be the curriculum of the students under Hindu Studies. Members of the research team working on the establishment of the Department of Hindu Studies in Doon University say that in the course, students will be taught about Ramayana, Mahabharata, Vedas, Vedanta, Vedanga, Gyan Mimansa, linguistics, Kalidas, Tulsidas, Arya Samaj, Buddha, Jain, life principles of Swami Vivekananda. At the same time, Hindu literature, geography, architecture, archaeology, ancient military science, Hindu chemistry, art, classical music and the genre of drama will also be studied.

Focus was also made in the National Education Policy

India’s higher education regulator, the University Grants Commission, first released a comprehensive curriculum for a postgraduate degree in Hindu studies. After this, BHU-DU and now Doon University have taken steps towards Hindu Studies. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 also focuses on language and culture. In view of this, the state government also decided to study Hindu Studies.

Establishment of the Department of Hindu Studies in Doon University is the priority of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. It is due to his efforts that the work of establishing this department is being done. Under the course, apart from Hindu Studies, students will also be taught Management Studies, Computer and Web Designing. After doing the course, the youth will be able to work as religious preachers, Hindu guides, professors and Hindu researchers in the spiritual field. After doing this course, there are immense employment opportunities abroad as well.
