Harish Rawat alleges – Goonda Act is being misused in Uttarakhand, will observe a silent fast tomorrow in protest

Senior Congress leader of Uttarakhand and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has made a serious allegation against the Pushkar Singh Dhami government of the state of misusing the Goonda Act against political opponents. He said that the law which was aimed at taking action against those involved in criminal activities and dangerous to the society, is now being used to suppress political workers.
Harish Rawat said through a post on his Twitter account that if any MLA of the ruling party finds a person unpleasant, then he is being banned in the Goonda Act and expelled from the district.
He alleged that recently the outgoing president of the Nagar Panchayat and his father have been expelled from the district under the same Act. In view of the upcoming civic elections, raising questions on such actions, Rawat said that so far he has received six such cases in which Congress workers have been targeted for political reasons.
Harish Rawat has announced a one-hour silent fast at his residence tomorrow, November 12, from 11 am to 12 noon to express his concern publicly. After this, he will discuss the issue with other Congress leaders and express his anger against this repressive policy at a public place.
