America returned more than 1400 stolen statues to India, worth Rs 84 crore
Many statues which were stolen from India and reached America have now been returned. These statues were also kept in the museum of New York. Let us tell you that America has started an initiative to return the stolen artifacts from the countries of South-East Asia. Under this, more than 1400 stolen artifacts worth 10 million dollars (84 crores) have been returned to India. These have been stolen from different areas of the country.
According to media reports, the artifacts looted and stolen from India have been returned to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Officer of New York, America on Wednesday. Among the recovered artifacts are such objects which were recently displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. They also include a stone statue of a divine dancer. Which was smuggled from Central India to London and sold there.
Sandstone statue of Dev Dancer also included
The ancient objects returned to India by America also include the sandstone statue of Dev Dancer looted from Madhya Pradesh in the 1980s. Which was stolen and taken to London. In order to smuggle this statue, the thieves had divided the statue into two parts. Later, both the parts were joined and donated to the museum. Along with this, the green colored Tanesar Devi statue stolen from Tanesara-Mahadev village of Rajasthan in the 1960s is also included. Which will be brought back to India soon.
America returned 297 objects to India
Let us tell you that in July, India and America started the process of stopping illegal trade and returning stolen antiquities to India. In September, America returned 297 stolen antiquities to India. Which are about 4000 years old.
