Uttarakhand: In the matter related to Upanal employees, High Court issues contempt notice to Chief Secretary Radha Raturi

The Uttarakhand High Court heard the contempt petition filed against the state government for not complying with the earlier order given in the interest of the Upanal Employees Union. After hearing the case, a single bench of Justice Alok Kumar Verma has issued a notice of contempt to Chief Secretary Radha Raturi and asked her to submit a reply. The court has fixed December 24 for the next hearing of the case.

According to the case, the contempt petition has been filed by the Upanal Employees Union stating that the High Court, while hearing the PIL of Kundan Singh vs State Government and others in the year 2018, had ordered the state government to make rules to regularize the Upanal employees. Do not collect GST from their salary and pay them minimum wages.

The state government went to the Supreme Court (Supreme Court) against this order. But the Supreme Court upheld the order of the High Court. The special appeal of the government was rejected. But still the state government did not comply with the order of the High Court. While the Supreme Court dismissed the special leave appeal of the state government. Even after the order, the state government has not yet made any rules regarding regularizing them. Whereas they have been working for years. Now the state government is removing them and issuing regular notification and recruiting on those posts.
