‘Don’t comment on our matters, take care of your own country’, when Pakistan said this on Waqf law, India reminded it of its place

a
India on Tuesday (April 15, 2025) criticised Pakistan’s comments on the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025 and said that the neighbouring country should look at its own poor record when it comes to the protection of minorities.
The Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act passed by the Parliament of India. Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on India’s internal affairs. Pakistan should look at its own poor record instead of preaching to others in protecting the rights of minorities.” Last week, commenting on the Waqf Amendment Act, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan condemned the changes made by India in the Waqf laws and called it a violation of the religious and economic rights of Indian Muslims.
What did Pakistan say?
Responding to a question during his weekly press conference, Shafqat Ali Khan said, “The passing of this discriminatory law also reflects the growing majoritarianism in India. There is a serious apprehension that it will contribute to further marginalization of Indian Muslims.”
The opposition also opposed the Waqf law
The Waqf Bill was passed easily after several days of heated debate in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and received the President’s assent on April 5. The government has said that the Act is about property and management, not about religion and argued that a huge amount of land has been occupied in the name of Waqf. At the same time, the opposition opposed it.
The opposition alleged that the BJP-led government is trying to weaken the Constitution, defame minorities and deprive them of their rights as well as divide the society.
