The Palestinian President has given a big blow to Hamas. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has addressed the Palestinian resistance group Hamas as ‘sons of dogs’ and has called upon Hamas to lay down arms and release Israeli hostages.
According to CNN report, the Palestinian President has called it top priority to stop the Israeli massacre in Gaza Strip. He said that Israeli hostages are giving Israel an excuse to attack, so the release of hostages is necessary.
In his televised speech from Ramallah, Abbas said, “Sons of dogs, release the hostages and stop justifying Israel.” Israel, on the other hand, rejected the massacre and said that it is fighting in Gaza for self-defense and its main target is Hamas.
Big blow for Hamas
Amid renewed efforts to push ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas, this comment by the Palestinian President is a big blow to Hamas and is the strongest public criticism. Egypt had also recently suggested Hamas to give up arms.
Not only this, Abbas has also condemned the attack on Israel by Hamas on 7 October and has called on all Palestinian factions to unite under the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization). He has also called for moving forward for the independence of Palestine.
Why is Abbas against Hamas?
Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas comes from the PLO, which rules in the West Bank. There is a Hamas government in Gaza, the other part of Palestine. There is a lot of difference in the ideology of these two factions, due to which these two factions have been face to face many times.
