US President Donald Trump has once again started bursting the bomb of tariffs. The 90-day period of tariff halt has now ended. On Monday, Trump announced new tariffs on 14 countries. Japan and South Korea, which are considered close to the US, have also not been spared. In fact, the first two letters were sent to these countries. A tariff of 25 percent has been imposed on them. Apart from this, the US has imposed heavy tariffs on South Africa, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar and even Bangladesh. Bangladesh is one of the countries on which the highest tariff has been imposed. But the surprising thing for the people is that the US has not yet touched India and China.

Surprising because China is anyway considered anti-US. Also, recently a huge tussle was seen between the two countries regarding tariffs. On the other hand, Trump has called India the tariff king. In such a situation, it is surprising that both the countries are left out of this list. However, Trump himself has also told why tariffs have not been imposed on these two countries.

Why India-China were left out?

He said that the trade deal with China has been finalized, so no separate tariffs are being imposed on them. He further said that talks are going on for the deal with India and it is very close to being finalized. According to Trump, “We have done a deal with the UK, we have done a deal with China. The deal with India is very close to being finalized.” He said that there is no possibility of a deal with the rest of the countries from which the US representatives met, so letters have been sent to them. One thing is certain from this that the talks regarding the US trade deal with India are in the final stages.

Where is the problem with India

No formal statement has come out about this yet, but a few days ago, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal had indicated that no deal will be done by ignoring the interests of Indian farmers. It is possible that the talks between the US and India are currently stuck on dairy products. A solution to this will be found soon.

35 percent tariff on Bangladesh

The US has imposed a 35 percent tariff on India’s neighbor Bangladesh. This means that clothes going from Bangladesh to the US will be charged 35 percent duty. This can make Bangladeshi clothes expensive there and American companies can stop getting clothes manufactured here. India is expected to benefit from this. This is the reason why the shares of the textile industry in India also saw a rise today. Shares of Gokaldas Exports, Vardhman Textiles, KPR Mills and Arvind Mills saw a tremendous rise today.
