Bird flu case reported in Uttarakhand, more than 1700 chickens buried, screening drive to be conducted

After confirmation of bird flu in a poultry farm in Shaktigarh of Sitarganj tehsil area of Udham Singh Nagar, the administration and the team of veterinary department buried more than 1700 chickens as per the instructions of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Government of India. Apart from this, the team has started further action by sanitizing the poultry farm. The District Magistrate has instructed the officials to conduct regular bird flu screening drives of the nearby poultry farmers.
After confirmation of bird flu in birds in a poultry farm in Shaktigarh area of Udham Singh Nagar, today on 24th August, all the 1 thousand 708 chickens of the poultry farm were slaughtered by the Magistrates and supporting personnel of the Revenue Department, Veterinary Veds and supporting officers of the Animal Husbandry Department, Executive Officer and supporting personnel of Municipal Corporation Shaktigarh and personnel of the Police Department and buried them deeply. After which the poultry farm was sanitized in a phased manner as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Government of India for the prevention of bird flu.
In fact, on August 21, the administration received information about the sudden death of chickens in a poultry farm located at Shaktigarh in Sitarganj. After which the team of the Animal Department took samples from the dead chickens and sent them to the National High Security Animal Disease Institute, Bhopal for examination. On August 23, bird flu was confirmed in the dead chickens. After which the District Magistrate, considering the concerned poultry farm as the center point under Section-20 of the Act, declared the entire area within 1 km radius of the poultry farm as an infected area and the entire area within 10 km radius as a vigilance area.
Under the guidelines of the Government of India, in the next three months, taking action in accordance with the post-operative surveillance plan in the vigilance area within 10 km radius, the area will be considered a bird flu free zone only after receiving the bird flu report of the samples sent to the National High Security Animal Disease Institute, Bhopal.
Along with this, the District Magistrate has directed to conduct regular bird flu screening drives of various departmental personnel employed in the cooling deep burial operation and poultry farmers of the nearby areas through the team of the Health Department in the coming days.
