A commotion erupted in the Israeli Parliament during US President Donald Trump’s address. While the US President was addressing the Parliament, a man shouted and tried to advance toward him. He was apprehended and removed from the Parliament. Following the uproar, Israeli lawmakers apologized to the US President for the disturbance. Meanwhile, Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid praised President Donald Trump in the Knesset and said the American leader should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize next year.
According to reports, the lawmaker who caused the commotion is Ofer Kassif, a prominent figure in Israeli politics. He is the only Jewish member of the Arab-majority Hadash-Ta’al party and is known for his outspoken opposition to Israeli actions in Gaza and the West Bank. Knesset members Ayman Odeh and Ofer Kassif raised a sign reading “Genocide” during Trump’s speech and were immediately removed by the Knesset Speaker.
Attempt to disrupt Trump’s speech
Speaking in parliament, the US president expressed his gratitude to Arab and Muslim leaders “who came together to pressure Hamas and free the hostages.” He added, “We received a lot of help… from many people you wouldn’t even imagine, and I want to thank them very much for that.” The US president added, “It’s an incredible victory for Israel and the world that all these countries are working together as partners for peace.” However, Trump’s speech in the Knesset was briefly interrupted by a commotion, before security officials escorted the protesters out of parliament and took away banners.
US President Donald Trump, while delivering a speech in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, also took a slight dig at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump said, “I want to express my gratitude to a man of extraordinary courage and patriotism, whose partnership contributed so much to making this momentous day possible.” He added, “You know, I’m talking about just one person… Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
