a
Kandaar village in the Jaunsar-Bawar region of Uttarakhand has taken a major step to curb ostentatious weddings. Women in the village will now wear only three pieces of jewelry at their weddings. A fine of 50,000 rupees has been imposed for violating the rule.
Women to Wear Only Three Jewelry at Weddings
In this era of ostentation and competition, where the glamour of wealthy weddings is becoming a burden for the poor, a glamorous news has emerged from the Jaunsar-Bawar tribal region of Uttarakhand. Villagers in Kandaar village, in the Chakrata tehsil, have unanimously decided that married women will now wear only three gold ornaments at weddings and family functions: a nose ring, earrings, and a mangalsutra. This step is aimed at promoting equality and simplicity in society, ensuring that poor families are not burdened financially and can afford to celebrate their weddings with simplicity.
A ban on ostentation
A village meeting decided that the increasing ostentation at weddings and the competition for rich-like rituals have become a burden for poor families. The villagers stated that equality in society is possible only when the barriers of ostentation are broken and all classes are seen as equals. Married women (Rainis) in the village will now wear only three traditional pieces of jewelry at weddings or social gatherings.
A fine of 50,000 rupees will be imposed for breaking the rules
This collective decision is expected to bring relief to poor families. They will now be able to hold simple weddings according to their financial capacity without social pressure. The village meeting also decided that any woman who violates this rule will be fined 50,000 rupees.
